Adopt Phoenix a Brown Tabby Domestic Longhair / Mixed (long coat) cat in

Location:
Phillipsburg, NJ
Description:

Sweet * Long-Haired * Gentle Giant * 12 years old * 20 lbs * Special Needs Phoenix is the sweetest, most loving big boy you could ever meet. He is enormous, yet not overweight, and has gorgeous long hair. He loves affection and getting petted. Background : He and his buddy, Riptide (the orange/white cat pictured with him below), were placed in a wonderful home through our Seniors 4 Seniors Program . Unfortunately, the senior gentleman they lived with became injured and is no longer able to care for them, so we recently took them back into foster care. Seniors 4 Seniors Program: Phoenix and Riptide are available for adoption or for long-term fostering through this program. It's a great program where we match a senior cat with a senior citizen on a fixed income who is able to care for them. FURR remains responsible for all the veterinary care expenses. For more details: https://www.felineurbanrescueandrehab.org/info/display?PageID=20562 Adopt with Riptide or Separately : Being back in foster care is a huge adjustment for Phoenix and Riptide. While Phoenix is so sweet and loves attention, Riptide is very skittish and standoffish with people, which was made even worse by losing his home and the gentleman who took care of them. We'd love to get them adopted or into another Senior 4 Senior home together, but we realize that may not be possible so they can go separately if needed. Other Pets : Phoenix gets along great with other cats. We don't know how he is around dogs or young children, but we think he would be fine with anyone respectful of cats in general. Health/Special Needs : Phoenix needs to be on medication (stool softener) and high fiber prescription food. He takes his meds like a good boy but will only eat the Rx food when he's crated with no other option, so he will have to be fed separately from other cats. He also needs to go to the vet more frequently than most cats, so his care is expensive. He got very sick with an intestinal blockage twice, and it will happen again if his care isn't maintained diligently. An adopter would have to have the financial means and willingness to do this. Fully Vetted : Both boys are neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and microchipped. We hope someone out there is willing to step up and take all this on, in order to give Phoenix (and perhaps Riptide, too) a happy life in his golden years . Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. ---To meet any of our cats please fill out our adoption application to be approved. Our application can be found under the 'Adopt' menu on our website: www.felineurbanrescueandrehab.org . ---FURR is a 100% volunteer organization. Every penny donated goes to paying our vet bills, caring for our cats, and TNR. FURR is a 501(c)3 organization so donations are tax deductible. May 28, 2024, 11:32 am
