"Ahoy ye mateys! Come on in to meet Pirate! He came to Animal Friends along with 63 other cats, in November of 2023 as part of a Human Investigation case. Pirate is our very special boy because he has a vision impairment. With some patience and effort, Pirate can live a long and happy life in a home that sets him up for success. Due to the nature of animal shelters, Pirate can be fearful and shy. He needs time to become familiar with new people and new situations. But, let's not focus on his disability, but embrace with wonder the amazing things that Pirate can do. Pirate has some Super Powers! His hearing, sense of smell, and sensitive whiskers, allow him to navigate his environment. Pirate can locate his food, water, litter, box and bed and cat tower if they are kept in a specific location. When Pirate is comfortable, he loves to play! He will make a beeline for a catnip toy or a bite of tuna, and will jump on the mouse on a teaser toy. Pirate's ideal home should be calm and quiet. He needs a predictable routine and probably would not do well with young children or canine friends. Ask your Adoption counselor for resources on how to set up a home for a visually impaired cat. Pirate would like to quote the author of Homer's Odyssey: "Love isn't something you see with your eyes. Pirate is also one of Yana's "Special" Felines which means his requested adoption donation has been underwritten and he will be sent home with an individualized starter kit of supplies and other support based on his unique needs.
