Adopt Princess * Bonded With Missey * a Domestic Longhair / Mixed cat in

Location:
Sheboygan, WI
Description:

*This pet had a surgery to remove a bladder stone on 4/24/24. Although the stone was removed surgically, recurrence is possible. Diet and/or medication is important in minimizing the excess minerals in the urinary tract which can lead to stone formation. This pet is currently being managed with a prescription diet to help her process the minerals. We are sending you home with a supply of the prescription diet, plus our veterinarian will 1) write a 90-day prescription for the diet and medication OR 2) approve a 90-day prescription through an online pharmacy of your choice (ex: Chewy) IF prescription request is submitted within 7 days of adoption. Please consult with your primary veterinarian as soon as possible to form a long-term plan of your pet's care and to refill the prescription diet and medication, if needed.Approved prescription diet(s) for this animal:Hill's c/d Multicare DietRoyal Canin SO DietPurina ProPlan UR Diet*Hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone) is a common problem in older cats. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism can include increased activity & vocalizing, weight loss despite a good appetite, increased thirst and increased urination. The condition is diagnosed by combination of physical examination and laboratory tests, especially a T4 test.Treatment for this condition typically involves the daily administration of an oral thyroid medication (methimazole); however, other treatments are available and may be discussed with your veterinarian. Each cat may respond a little differently and therefore adjustments in dose or frequency are often necessary. It is essential that a veterinarian monitor the cat's response to treatment (both with physical exam and blood tests) to determine if the dose needs to be adjusted. Once the cat is regulated on a "maintenance dose", blood test rechecks should be done at regular 6 to 12 month intervals. It is important to remember that while most cats respond well to treatment, the condition is not being "cured". Daily oral treatment and regular veterinary rechecks will need to be continued for the life of the cat.We recommend that you talk to your regular veterinarian before making a decision to adopt a cat with this condition.
