Sheldon's story is a perfect example of being "in the right place at the right time." For Sheldon, the right place was under a guard rail on the side of a busy road. The right time was just as one of our volunteers passed by while driving home. Our volunteer could tell that this boy - a suspected purebred Burmese - was lost and friendly, so she scruffed him, put him in her car and contacted ASHA's director.ASHA immediately agreed to take him into rescue and get him into the vet. Sheldon was dangerously underweight at just 3.75lbs (the size of a 3-month-old kitten). He was covered in dozens of ticks and had burns and scabs on his arms and paws, likely from walking over hot pavement. He also had a bad upper respiratory illness. The vet discovered he was previously neutered and declawed on all four paws. It was a miracle Sheldon had survived on the streets with no way to defend himself and no way to even catch a meal.Thankfully, all of Sheldon's problems were fixable. His bloodwork came back normal, and the vet said he should make a full recovery. After a month in a caring foster home, Sheldon has gained weight and all of his injuries and illnesses have healed.Sadly, no one came forward to claim Sheldon. But this outgoing, curious boy is not one to let his unfortunate past stand in the way of his future happiness!Sheldon is seeking a specific type of home, which we know is out there.Because he is declawed and clearly an escape artist, Sheldon will need an adults-only home who can watch him carefully and ensure he never gets out again.Sheldon has a flat face typical of his breed and is prone to watery eyes, so his new owner must keep his eyes clean every day and watch for any signs of infection.Sheldon is a HUGE talker and craves attention, so we would love for him to go to a home where his people are retired or work from home. He loves to sit at his foster Mom's feet while she works.Sheldon is currently living with another cat and seems to be cat-friendly. We do not know how he would be with dogs. Sheldon has a high prey drive and should not go to a home with small animals or birds.If you or someone you know would be a good fit for Sheldon, he is ready to go home ASAP.
